Between 2023 and 2024, the amount of corporate data pasted or uploaded into AI tools rose by an astonishing 485%. In early 2024, GenAI tools accounted for 13.1% of all insider-related data-loss channels. Most of this isn’t malicious; it’s employees seeking speed, debugging help, or content generation, but the exposure is real and growing rapidly.
From 2024 to 2025, employee data flowing into GenAI services grew 30×+, creating a dramatically larger exposure surface almost overnight. Engineering teams have become one of the highest-risk user groups because GenAI significantly boosts their productivity, while simultaneously increasing the likelihood of accidental IP exposure.
Workforce adoption jumped from 22% (2023) to 75% (2024), a massive behavioral shift.
