How Hover Uses MagicMirror to Govern AI Usage Without Slowing Teams Down

Hover Genai Observability

Hover needed a way to manage growing AI adoption among employees across various tools, including ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, without disrupting productivity or risking data exposure. MagicMirror provided them with visibility, control, and a clear strategy moving forward.

Adoption Was Outpacing Oversight

Employees were adopting GenAI tools organically, but there was no clear strategy in place to manage usage or mitigate risk.
Teams had started exploring tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot for tasks ranging from coding to data analysis. Centralized oversight and controls were needed to ensure the responsible use and protection of data across the tools. Hover leadership needed specific and actionable data around how AI tools were performing. Even with traditional DLP tools, what the team needed was visibility into the content and context of how AI was actually being used. They needed assurances that employees could utilize the best AI tools for their specific needs without worrying about data risk or incurring costs for all of them.

We want to give our employees these tools, but we need to do it in a safe & responsible way. We really think MagicMirror can be the avenue for that.”

Visibility, Context, & Protection in One

Hover rolled out MagicMirror across Chrome using managed profiles and Google Workspace provisioning. With it, the IT team gained prompt-level insight into AI activity without interfering with workflows or requiring agents to intervene.

MagicMirror allowed them to:

  • Track which tools were being used and by whom
  • Understand how each tool performed across teams
  • Protect sensitive data like personal information before it leaves the device
  • Manage file upload workflows, especially for the analytics team
  • Compare adoption and value across tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot
  • Block the use of unapproved tools like DeepSeek

The user experience has been a great enabler for our employees. With MagicMirror enforcing policies & maintaining privacy standards for us, IT has become less of a “no” organization & more of a “yes” when it comes to AI.”

Continuous Insight, Informed Decisions

Going into implementation, Hover had three clear objectives for deploying MagicMirror. All three were achieved—delivering tangible value across compliance, control, and AI investment strategy:

MagicMirror allowed them to:

  1. Maintain compliance with privacy regulations and customer agreements
MagicMirror onboarded seamlessly as a browser extension, giving Hover a reliable mechanism to keep PII out of generative AI apps. All data classification and enforcement happened locally, supporting regulatory compliance and protecting customer trust, without blocking productivity.
  2. Enable the use of selected free AI tools while maintaining managed control
With MagicMirror in place, employees could safely explore a range of generative AI tools of their choice without introducing unmanaged risk. Sensitive inputs were intercepted at the browser level, and file upload workflows included user override options with audit logging, ensuring controlled management of what data was shared.
  3. Measure the adoption of AI for productivity tasks to guide future investment
With the use of both ChatGPT and Claude approved for use company wide, real-world usage data could be assessed to understand which was more widely adopted and better aligned with user needs in specific use cases. These types of insights prompted reevaluation of Hover's technology investment priorities.
We can’t afford to wait six months to make AI decisions. MagicMirror gives us the insight to course-correct in real time.”
